Nature, the internet, and an argument with school
I was born in Budapest. I've lived in the UK, in California and in Scotland. These days I live in Ericeira, in Portugal. The two projects above come out of that.
The internet found me early
I've liked nature and technology together since the web first reached me in the nineties. I still pick work that way.
I grew up in Budapest. After that I lived in the UK, in California and in Scotland. Scotland was Aberdeen, for the degree. In the UK I was also in Tenbury Wells, for A-levels. I live on the Portuguese coast now, in Ericeira.
Aberdeen, and a pupil I nearly said no to
From 2007 to 2009 I did A-levels at Saint Michael’s College in Tenbury Wells. From 2009 to 2014 I studied computer science at the University of Aberdeen and left with an MSci, plus an industrial placement.
I needed money, so I worked in a fast-food place and in the kitchen. In second year a classmate asked if I'd take a first-year he couldn't teach anymore. I hesitated, then said yes. Good call. I earned more, worked fewer hours, and teaching made the subject clearer in my own head. Within a year I didn't need the restaurant. That first pupil's thanks is what made me brave enough to take the next one.
School and learning are not the same thing
I wasn't a teacher's favourite, and nobody held me up as the pupil to copy. The subjects I cared about, I did well in. Computing was one of them. I was in one of the first groups who were actually taught it at school.
At some point it clicked. Education and school don't really walk together. A lot of why learning has a bad name is the compulsory frame around it. The line on oktass.hu comes from there. Where you're allowed not to study, wanting to know something has a chance.
Web, marketing, home, then away again
Since 2010 I've run websites and done online marketing. The short version: technical project management on the internet. The site, the campaigns, the content, and whatever sits under them.
I moved back to Budapest in 2014. The oktass idea was already old by then. I just didn't have the time, or the will, to build it. Planning started in early 2018, building in the middle of the year, and the site opened at the start of 2019. I spoke to a lot of the 52 founding tutors in person. The best moment is still when a teacher and a student find each other. Same feeling as when something clicked for a pupil of mine. I just know now that they'll have a lot of those moments between them.
Balaton Life, and taking AI seriously
Building things is mostly a hobby again. AI isn't. I didn't want to watch it from the side, so I started building with it. Balaton Life is what came out of that. Claude, Composer and Grok help me shape it, and the stories go out through Grok.
I garden. I like travelling, especially somewhere warm. Home right now is Ericeira. And I have room for work. If it's a site, marketing, AI or strategy, write. If an hour is enough, book one.
